Seeing your work: rendering, files and the first tools

In progress: the pieces that turn the workspace into a working editor.

Major additions

  • See your scene in the viewport, rendered with WebGPU.
  • Orbit, pan and zoom the viewport camera.
  • Open and import models, and save your work.
After that
  • Play back animated characters in the Previewer.
  • Paint layered textures in Texture Paint.
  • Edit animation keys, curves and layers in the Animation editor.
  • Select, transform and reshape geometry in the Model editor.

A home for ToolBox3D

The ToolBox3D website: an overview of the five editors, guides, support and these release notes.

Major additions

  • A new website at toolbox3d.app with the editors, documentation, a Learn hub, support and contact pages.
  • The editor now lives at toolbox3d.app/editor.
Minor improvements
  • Privacy Policy and Terms of Service pages.
  • Pages work at phone width and load without any third-party scripts or fonts.

The Copper Studio workspace

A warm, studio-style interface for every editor.

Major additions

  • A top bar with the editor switcher, File, Edit, Windows and Help menus, and an asset card showing what each part of your asset contains.
  • A left panel with each editor's own sections — the outliner with search, rig modules, clips or texture sets — and a resizable channel box dock.
  • Preferences: interface scale for panels and viewport (75–125%) and the Warm Copper or Noir theme, remembered between visits.
Minor improvements
  • Tools that are not built yet are shown disabled, with the reason in their tooltip.
  • The channel box dock starts collapsed in narrow windows.
  • Help › About ToolBox3D lists the fonts and icons the editor bundles.

ToolBox3D goes live

The first ToolBox3D build, running in the browser.

Major additions

  • The editor runs in your browser: Rust compiled to WebAssembly and drawn on the GPU.
  • Switch between the Previewer, Model, Control Rig, Animation and Texture Paint workspaces; each switch hands your work over through the shared cache.
Minor improvements
  • Every change to ToolBox3D is built and published to toolbox3d.app automatically.
